February 6, 1958 – George was invited to join the Quarry Men, a band formed by John Lennon. Paul McCartney was already a member. This made up three quarters of the lineup for the Beatles.
February 9, 1961 – The Beatles played their first lunchtime show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.
February 1, 1962 – As the band’s new manager, Brian Epstein made his first booking for the Beatles at the Thistle Café in West Kirby, Cheshire.
February 5, 1962 – Ringo Starr appeared with the Beatles for the first time, due to Pete Best falling ill.
February 2, 1963 – The band’s first full tour of Britain began at the Gaumont Cinema in Bradford. They were part of a group of 5 bands supporting Helen Shapiro.
February 1, 1964 – “I Want To Hold Your Hand” was #1 in the U.S. charts, and stayed there for 7 weeks.
February 7, 1964 – The band flew to the U.S. to start their first U.S. tour, and they were greeted at the John F. Kennedy Airport by 3,000 screaming fans.
February 4, 1968 – Recording began on John’s “Across the Universe.” Two female falsetto voices were needed for harmony, so two women were chosen from the crowd outside. This was the only time fans were used in recording songs.
February 1, 1967 – The first studio recording took place for the title song of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album.
February 2, 1969 – Yoko Ono divorced Anthony Cox and was given full custody of their daughter, Kyoto.
