September 11, 1962 – The band recorded “Love Me Do,” “Please Please Me” and “P.S. I Love You” at Abbey Road. Andy White was on the drums for this session, and Ringo Starr played percussion.
September 10, 1963 – The Beatles received the award for Top Vocal Group of the Year at the Variety Club Awards.
September 11, 1964 – The band was scheduled to play in Jacksonville, Florida at the Gator Bowl. The Beatles refused to play until they were assured that the audience would not be segregated due to color.
September 11, 1965 – The album “Help!” reached the top of the US charts, staying there for 9 weeks.
September 6, 1966 – To prepare for his role in “How I Won the War,” John got a haircut. His hair clippings were burnt to prevent people from selling them as souvenirs. It was also at this time that he began wearing his famous “granny glasses.”
September 10, 1966 – The album “Revolver” reached the top of the US charts and stayed there for six weeks.
September 11, 1967 – The Beatles and crew began the 5-day bus trip that would be filmed for “Magical Mystery Tour.”
September 6, 1968 – Eric Clapton played guitar for an overdub of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” at Abbey Road. Also, Jackie Lomax’s “Sour Milk Sea” was released. It was written by George, and he, Ringo and Eric Clapton played on the track.
September 7, 1976 – George was found guilty of plagiarizing the Chiffons’ “”He’s So Fine” in his song “My Sweet Lord.”
September 9, 2009 – The Beatles: Rock Band is being released. Not only will there be interactive play and full band elements, this is the first music game to offer harmonies. There will also be graphics to take you through moments in the Beatles’ lives, and if you master the songs, you will be able to see photos and hear rare audio bits from the archives.
September 9, 2009 – Remastered versions of The Beatles catalogue will be released. The remaining members of the band say this reproduction very closely resembles how their music sounded in the studio.
