August 14, 1962 – Brian Epstein asked Ringo Starr of Rory Storm & The Hurricanes if he wanted to replace Pete Best as the drummer for The Beatles.
August 15, 1962 – Pete Best played his last show with The Beatles at the Cavern Club.
August 12, 1963 – The band played the first of six nights at the Odeon Cinema in Llandudno, Wales.
August 12, 1964 – The movie “A Hard Day’s Night” was released in the U.S. It opened in 21 New York cinemas, taking in $75,000 in its first night.
August 13, 1965 – The band arrived in New York for their North American tour.
August 15, 1965 – The Beatles played at Shea Stadium, setting a record for attendance at a pop concert, with 55,600 people.
August 10, 1966 – Due to John’s comment that “We are more popular than Jesus,” many in the US banned their music, and some radio stations would not play any Beatles songs. Share prices of Capitol Records fell in response to the bans.
August 12, 1966 – The Beatles began their last tour in America, performing in front of 13,000 fans in Chicago.
August 11, 1968 – Apple Records was launched.
August 9, 1969 – The Manson Family murdered Sharon Tate and four friends. Apparently, Charles Manson believed that The Beatles were sending him messages through their songs.
