August 16 – August 22

August 18, 1962 – Ringo Starr drums for the first time as an official member of The Beatles.
August 22, 1963 – Robert Freeman photographed the band in the Palace Court Hotel. The shot was used for the cover of the 2nd album, “With The Beatles.”
August 18, 1964 – The Beatles flew to the US for their North American tour. They were greeted at San Francisco Airport by 9,000 fans.
August 22, 1964 – The band played at the Empire Stadium in Vancouver to a crowd of 20,000. The show was broadcast live on CKNW, the local radio station.
August 16, 1965 – Brian Matthew, from the BBC Transcription Service, spent some time on tour with the Beatles. The material was used to create the documentary, “The Beatles Abroad.”
August 19, 1966 – Before they were to play a concert in Memphis, TN, the band received an anonymous phone call warning that one or all of the Beatles would be assassinated during the performance. The band played anyway, but the boys were scared when a live firecracker was thrown onstage during the concert.
August 22, 1966 – The album “Revolver” was certified gold in the US.
August 19, 1967 – “All You Need Is Love” hit the top of the US charts, remaining for a week. Also on this day in Denver, Colorado, KNOW radio banned all Beatles songs, claiming they encouraged drug taking.
August 22, 1968 – After some studio sessions attended by Yoko Ono, Ringo left and took a holiday. Also, Cynthia Lennon sued John for divorce, due to his adultery with Yoko Ono.
