“Drink Brownie Club Beverages”

Brownie Root Beer was one of the many carbonated beverages made by the Atlas Beverage Company. Atlas was started in Detroit, Michigan around 1929 by a Polish immigrant named Tomaszewski. When he retired, he passed the business to his sons, Walter and Butch. They ran the company together until Walter retired and Butch bought his share of the business. Atlas Beverages closed about 1996 and the building was sold around 2003.
Some of the flavors besides the Brownie Root Beer that Atlas made were Bulldog Ginger Beer, Cream, Strawberry and Club Soda. The bottles were available in cases and were sold to homes and local businesses.
There isn’t a lot of information available about Brownie Root Beer or Atlas Beverages, so if you have something to add, please blog-in and share it.

Found a 7 oz. “Brownie Beverages (taste the difference)” clear bottle during drout water levels in the Potomac River, Alexandria VA. I believe it is one of the beverage flavors you mention, but the little “brownie” (isn’t this a Palmer Cox character) on my bottle is white with a brown hat, while others I’ve seen have white hats. I have also seen a chocolate beverage top with cork inside, but no characters seem to match my bottle. Since the label is mostly worn off in front, I cannot tell the flavor or exact date. Good to know around when it was maufactured, although mine says Seven Up Bottling Co, Inc. not Atlas.
I just pulled a clear 7 0z bottle (with four embossed brownies an 1 1/2 inch tall circling the neck of the bottle) out of the St Lawrence River in New York State. The main part of the bottle has “Brownie” embossed 4 times bottom to top not quite perpendicular . The bottle is marked on the bottom Seven-Up Utica Bottlers,Marcy N.Y.
I have a bottle of Brownies rootbeer, it is a one quart bottle, it still is full of rootbeer with it’s metal top. the top just says root beer on it. the label is white, brown and red. I was just wondering if this is of any value. besides it being a little dirty on the glass witch is washable it is in excellent condition. it is only dirty cause it’s been sitting on a shelf in a basement for at least twenty years if not more.
I have a 10 oz. bottle of Brownie soda with a picture of a tiny elf trying with all his might to tip a bottle. “taste the difference”. The elf is in a camp at the neck with the words “shake me”. On the back is “Brownie Beverages. Taset the Difference” … by Authority Moxie-Monarch-Nugrape Co, Doraville, Georgia, 30340.” The use of the zip code means that this bottle is later than 1967. I wonder what the other Brownie Beverages were?
My inlaws were walking around a fence row and found a 10 oz “Brownie-Taste The Difference” bottle. It was bottled by MONARCH CITRUS PRODUCTS COMPANY of Doraville, Georgia, but no zip code. The description of the bottle sounds the same as Emmett’s. The metal top was not attached.
Emmett,
Thanks for the information about no zip codes meaning the bottle was of a pre-1967 date.
I found a piece of brown sea glass with the B trademark and and word Brownie on the bottom of the glass bottle. I have a picture of the Brownie Root Beer bottle and it is brown. I think in the 1960’s. Atlas brewing company switched to clear bottles.
My husband was hunting on some property of my uncle’s, Larens county, Ga. he brought me a Brownie bottle today. And like mentioned above, the little guy has a brown hat instead of white. No top . The bottle is clear, the fluid ounces is rubbed off, but rest seems ok. Nothing but a picture on front , small circle pic on neck and the ‘taste the difference’ on back, no other lettering. I’ll just rinse the dirt out and set it with other oddities he finds in the woods. Nice to see some info on it, thanks
