Texaco Gas Station Hat

Texaco Gas Station Attendant Hat 1960s 1970sTexaco Service Attendant Hat

This is a Texaco gas station service attendant’s hat. It dates from between the late 1960s to the 1970s. It’s a symbol of a past when service attendants filled your gas tank, checked your oil and washed your windshield.

This particular version of the Texaco logo was used from the 1960s to the 1980s. The manufacturer of this uniform hat was a company called Dura-Bill. The Texaco buttons, or hat pins, are intact and in good condition. Many older hats do not still have the hat pins, and details like these are important to collectors. Uniforms were worn by Texaco service station attendants as well as the Guards and Gates security personnel at Texaco Oil refineries.

Texaco began as the Texas Fuel Company in 1901. Texaco acquired their red star logo when purchased by the Red Star Oil Company in 1911 and became known as the Texas Company. The name was officially changed to Texaco, Inc. in 1959. Texaco merged with the Chevron Corporation in 2001.

This is part of the Retro Planet collection. This item is not for sale.

Milton Berle was sponsored by Texaco in  the early days of Television.  His show was callled the Texaco Star Theater.   Four guys dressed as Texaco gas attendants would come out and sing the commercial.  “We are the men from Texaco. We go from Maine to Mexico….l”   Sorry but I can’t recall any more lyrics. Maybe some other Baby  Boomer can help me out.
