1960s Tin Sparking Space Gun Toy
This tin Space Gun was made in the 1960s by a Japanese company called Daiya. Pulling the trigger causes friction, resulting in sparks that can be seen within the gun barrel. There is also a siren that sounds. Painted on the side is a rocket streaking through space. The gun measures 5 ¾ inches in length. Original boxes viewed online show that the gun was called the “Baby Space Gun”. This is a great example of the obsession people had with outerspace that started in the 1950s and continued into the 1960s.
The toymaker Daiya was founded in Tokyo, Japan in the 1950s. They are noted for making quality toy space guns and robots. There is no record of them making toys after the 1970s.
