Remember When: Under the Retro Christmas Tree

Under the Retro Christmas Tree

Some of the greatest Christmas memories from our childhoods are what we found waiting for us under the Christmas tree from year to year. When we were very young, the years were defined by the toys we received. Featured very prominently in our memories were the years when we were fortunate enough to receive THE toy in demand that year.

One of these great classic toys was Lincoln Logs. First patented in 1920, this classic toy continues to encourage imaginative play and build motor skills—not to mention providing hours and hours of fun! Lincoln Logs were all the rage during the 50s and early 60s when the frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone were memorialized in television series, becoming every child’s heroes.

Tool sets were, and still are, very popular gifts for young kids. I remember my brothers tapping a rubber hammer alongside our Dad as he did some small job around the house. Young builders in your family today would enjoy a toy like our Tin Tool Box filled with handy tools made of rubber and plastic. They’re easy to handle so little hands can get right to work. And for bigger kids there’s the Erector construction set. Manufactured since 1913, the Erector set is classic item for children today since it is made of metal rather than plastic. Just take a look at the authentic Special Edition Empire State Building Erector set we have available. It’s a great retro gift to motivate aspiring architects or to be given to any child you’d rather see building something than hooked up to a video game.

And who doesn’t remember the Operation Board Game! Many variations on the original theme have been released over the years, (SpongeBob SquarePants and Spiderman to name a couple), but the classic version is still available here at Retroplanet.com. It’s a game of skill that makes a great buzzing sound if you touch the sides as you try to pick up fun body parts (like the funny bone)! And speaking of body parts—don’t forget Mr. Potato Head. Kids have been rearranging his face since the 1950s. He is a real tried-and-true toy that is destined to appear on the Christmas lists of children for decades to come. He and his spouse, Mrs. Potato Head are unique and loads of fun.

At Retroplanet we carry a wide variety of retro inspired toys. These are classic toys and games that have endured through the years and continue to be enjoyed today. Bring that excitement to your own loved ones by giving gifts that you remember from your childhood that you’d like to share with a new generation.
